It starts with "Once upon a time in Gandan Yurt".
Yes, because it’s a truly beautiful story Gandan Yourte :
- is the story of Olivier's journey aboard the legendary Trans-Siberian train
- is the story of THE meeting of our friend Tuv at the end of the world in Mongolia.
- is the story of Marie who meets Olivier and becomes one.
- the story of the yurt as a vehicle for our cultures
Since 2008, it’s been the story of you and us, of your yurts that we take pleasure in making every day and sending to you.
Encounters, travel, Mongolian culture, yurts, ethics, respect, team spirit… at Gandan Yourte we want all this to be present every day.

respect for ethical and responsible values
By choosing to offer traditional Mongolian yurts, handcrafted in Mongolia, we aim to develop craftsmanship in the fairest possible market: wood carving, sculpture, painting, traditional decorations…

We regularly check that the manufacturing process is carried out in good conditions, with respect for the craftsmen. We are committed to ensuring that no children work on our yurts. Our business is above all an exchange with a country, based on mutual respect.
Quality products and services
More and more of you are placing your trust in us, and we’d like to thank you for that.
Each of our yurts is handcrafted to ensure its perfect solidity. This also makes each yurt unique!
Felt
Our felt is ECOLOGICAL = 100% SHEEP WOOL
The felt we offer is made from 100% sheep’s wool.
No synthetics, no yak, just natural!
Sheep’s wool is themost effective natural insulator : ecological, healthy, recyclable and easy to install. In our home, synthetic materials are PROHIBITED, even in small quantities: they are of no thermal benefit, and are harmful to the lungs when tiny particles enter the fragile, polluting yurt air.
No yak… because how can I put it… when the damp gets to the tip of its nose… it’s extremely smelly!
Not to mention that our wool is washed, so there’s no smell to worry about!
Not to mention its excellent absorption of ambient humidity (the canvas is not stitched black), its sturdiness (you can assemble and disassemble your yurt at your leisure) and its acoustic comfort (ahhhhhhl the peace and quiet!!).
A small but important detail: our felt is cut and sewn by hand so that the toono – the roof circle – is completely unobstructed and lets in as much light as possible. That’s not the case with everyone else.
You can choose between the traditional felt included in your yurt or the optional French felt, which has other qualities.
Wooden elements
Our wood IS SOLID = Tough
All our wood– poles, walls, pillars, toono – is carefully selected and sorted.
The wood used to build our yurts is selected for its thickness. The choice of trees for the woodwork is made with care and respect for the environment, to obtain thick, solid wood.
All the while respecting the law: for some years now, larch has been scrupulously controlled. Only those authorized according to government criteria are allowed to leave the country. This is the larch we use.
La toile
Our fabric IS DURABLE = TECHNIPLUS
In particular, we offer a technical canvas, TECHNIPLUS , dedicated to year-round outdoor yurts and professionals. We have found that many of our customers, both professionals and those who use their yurts year-round, prefer to invest in a durable fabric that is easier to manage on a day-to-day basis. Techniplus canvas is just that:
- waterproof
- breathable
- anti-uv
- antifungal
- easy to maintain
- 3iM1 fireproof option
No need for a rain screen underneath, easy to clean. Made of acrylic, like boat sails or hotel awnings, it’s real peace of mind.
The service
ALL OUR LITTLE EXTRAS = A SATISFIED CUSTOMER
We attach particular importance to the relationships we build with our customers.
We like to talk to you, listen to your projects, advise you, share your experiences…
We have opted for a human-scale company, in which we, Marie, Olivier, our craftsman in Mongolia and our partners, decide to give you our full attention and responsiveness.
YOU are the heart of what we love, we want you to be satisfied, we want to bring you our experience: fast e-mail and telephone exchanges, documented yurt tools and tutorials, because yes, it’s easy to build a yurt, attentive follow-up of your orders.
ALL OUR EXPERTISE AT YOUR SERVICE!
WE ARE COMMITTED
At Gandan Yourte we are committed to cultural exchange, respect for the individual, ethics and the environment.
That’s why we support 2 associations for every yurt you buy:
For every yurt you buy:
Christina Noble : 10€ donated
Lendahand : 10€ loaned
CHRISTINA NOBLE
The Christina Noble association helps disadvantaged children and families in Mongolia.
Thanks to your €10, the association is able to feed, care for and educate children in need. The Cieux Bleus yurt village was built to carry out these actions and protect the children.
Christina Noble’s team is also on a mission to build yurts to shelter and protect families during the freezing winter in Ulan Bator. Thanks to your donations and their energy, they are able to offer families a warm place to stay during the coldest months of the year.
Lendahand
Lendahand is a micro-credit platform.
Micro-credit is a solidarity loan for a more humane economy. It enables small craftsmen and tradesmen with few resources to develop a small business. Lendahand is a structure that connects people in this virtuous circle.
Thanks to you, we lend €10 free of charge to each project we support: Célestine’s fruit juice business in Benin, Juanita’s coffee bean factory in Peru…
As small entrepreneurs, we are sensitive to these projects. We realize how important it is to develop small, local structures. Especially in countries that are not fortunate enough to benefit from a social model like ours.
